$25 Billion Push: Telangana Aims to Make Hyd ‘Laboratory of the Future’ with 5 Lakh Jobs

Telangana has emerged as a key Life Sciences hub in India, with Hyderabad driving growth in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and advanced research. The sector has become a major pillar of the State’s economy, supported by strong infrastructure, skilled talent and global exports.

Building on this momentum, IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu on Tuesday announced an ambitious roadmap to transform Hyderabad into a “Laboratory of the Future.” Inaugurating BioAsia 2026 at the Hitex Hyderabad, the Minister said Telangana aims to attract $25 billion in investments in the Life Sciences sector by 2030 and create five lakh jobs.

He unveiled the Telangana Next-Gen Life Sciences Policy (2026–2030), which targets placing the State among the top three global Life Sciences clusters by the end of the decade.

Highlighting the shift in the global healthcare landscape, Sridhar Babu said India is no longer seen merely as a supply base for pharmaceuticals and vaccines, but as a source of advanced scientific solutions. “Telangana is preparing for this transition, from a manufacturing hub to a global centre for innovation, research and advanced drug discovery,” he said.

He noted that Hyderabad is the only Indian city featured in the CBRE Global Life Sciences Atlas, alongside established hubs such as Boston, San Francisco, Beijing and Tokyo.

To strengthen the ecosystem, the State is investing in workforce development through institutions such as the Telangana School of Life Sciences and Young India Skills University, offering specialised training in emerging areas including mRNA technology, gene editing and AI-driven drug discovery. A dedicated policy has also been introduced to position Hyderabad as a global medical tourism hub.

Inviting global investors, the Minister said Telangana offers opportunities across AI-based drug discovery, automation in biologics manufacturing, precision medicine, computational biology and Bio-Manufacturing 4.0.

“Telangana is ready to collaborate with global industry leaders to shape the next phase of Life Sciences innovation,” he said.
