Telangana on the Fast Track to Global Innovation, Says IT Minister

Telangana is racing ahead on the path to becoming a global hub of innovation, where Artificial Intelligence, research-driven breakthroughs, and ethical technology are shaping the future. The State is not just aiming for academic excellence, but for practical applications of technology that can drive national growth, enhance public services, and empower citizens across urban and rural areas. With initiatives spanning AI, innovation hubs, and cutting-edge research, Telangana is positioning itself as a model for other States and the world.

Speaking at the BITS Alumni Association Global Meet 2026 at the BITS Pilani–Hyderabad campus on Saturday, Minister for IT and Industries D Sridhar Babu said the government is committed to developing Telangana into a global “Innovation Capital.” He emphasised that technology should go beyond academic degrees and be meaningfully applied for national service and the larger goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Drawing inspiration from global digital models, the Minister highlighted that while many countries have promoted private digital monopolies, India has emerged as a leader through Digital Public Infrastructure such as Aadhaar and UPI. Telangana is taking this philosophy forward with the launch of the AI-enabled Telangana Data Exchange (TGDeX), the first initiative of its kind in the country, giving a significant boost to research and innovation.

The proposed Telangana AI Innovation Hub and AI University are expected to set new benchmarks and serve as reference models for other States. Sridhar Babu also stressed that in today’s era of Artificial Intelligence, coordination, ethics, data privacy, and responsible AI are just as important as raw intelligence. He urged technology companies to focus on research and development and prepare for a job market that values creative problem-solving over coding alone.

Highlighting the importance of inclusive growth, the Minister said the benefits of AI should reach rural areas, addressing challenges in agriculture, education, and healthcare. He invited the BITS Pilani alumni and leadership to collaborate in advancing Telangana’s “Telangana Rising” vision, signalling the State’s readiness to work closely on artificial intelligence, innovation, and cutting-edge academic research.

The Minister concluded by announcing that Telangana is fully prepared to partner with institutions and innovators to position the State as a global innovation capital, setting the pace for India’s technological leadership.
