Indian travel habits are shifting faster than ever, with 63% choosing Asia for their next international trip, 60% opting to plan independently or through Online Travel Agencies (OTAs), and 62% of Gen Z aiming for adventure sports. These trends highlight a new generation of travellers who are more independent, experience-driven, and ready to explore the world on their own terms.
Younger travellers are exploring new horizons, showing a clear preference for long-haul destinations like Australia and Europe/UK, while Gen X tends to stick to nearby Asian countries. Many are embracing self-curated journeys, opting for experiences that offer flexibility, independence, and personalization, according to the latest WanderSafe Report 2025.
Digital planning is now the norm. A significant number of Indians book trips independently or through Online Travel Agencies (OTAs), yet 41% still face challenges with visas, logistics, or understanding travel insurance. Gen X travellers remain the most dependent, often seeking help from their children for bookings and planning.
Purpose-driven travel is on the rise. From multi-country itineraries and cultural immersion to adventure activities and longer family vacations, Indians are increasingly prioritizing richer, more memorable experiences over routine tourism.

Safety awareness is evolving too. Nearly 88% of travellers report being aware of travel insurance, motivated by climate disruptions, flight delays, global uncertainties, and rising medical costs. However, gaps remain as some still find policies confusing or costly, limiting adoption despite growing interest.
The study also highlights a major digital shift: travellers increasingly prefer flexible, personalised, and on-demand insurance protection, reflecting a broader trend toward technology-driven, seamless travel planning.
Travel today is all about going bold, living free, and turning every journey into an unforgettable adventure. From chasing new horizons to creating your own path, it’s no longer just about reaching a destination—it’s about experiencing, exploring, and embracing every moment along the way.
