Gear up to see Telangana turning heads with a bold vision for the future. The State is gearing up to lead as the ‘Blue–Green Economy Capital,’ combining environmental resilience with sustainable urban growth, promising cleaner air, rejuvenated rivers, and thriving urban forests.
State IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu shared the government’s plans during a panel discussion on “Musi Rejuvenation & Blue–Green Infrastructure in Hyderabad” at the Telangana Rising Global Summit 2025.
On Tuesday, He said, “Urban development cannot be measured by physical infrastructure alone. Clean air, clean water and a healthy environment are equally essential responsibilities of the government.” Highlighting the importance of long-term environmental planning, Sridhar Babu noted that some difficult policy decisions are being taken in the interest of future generations.
The Minister detailed the State’s initiatives, including the Musi River Rejuvenation Programme, HYDRAA, and the Net Zero Bharat Future City framework, aimed at fostering blue–green economic growth. He added that a large-scale effort is underway to revitalise the polluted Musi River, with proposals to draw Godavari water to restore it as a sustainable urban lifeline. The HYDRA initiative, designed to protect lakes and ponds from encroachment and revive local water systems, has now gained strong public support.
Highlighting ecological restoration, Sridhar Babu said Telangana is developing urban forest blocks as models for other States. The 85-acre Kotwal Guda Eco Park, home to over 8,000 birds across 19 rare species, stands as a visible example of the State’s commitment to conservation.

He emphasised that Telangana’s Vision 2047 prioritises the Blue–Green Economy, reflecting the government’s dedication to environmental resilience, sustainable growth, and improved quality of life in urban areas.
