Imagine learning how Artificial Intelligence can decode the secrets of our planet, from tracking forest changes to predicting urban growth. That’s exactly what students are discovering at a one-of-a-kind 3-day workshop, “Unlocking the Power of Geo-AI,” designed to bridge data, technology, and the environment.
Hosted by VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology (VNR VJIET) in collaboration with experts from the Advanced Data Processing Research Institute (ADRIN), Secunderabad, the workshop blends theory with real-world application. Participants are mastering tools like QGIS, ArcGIS, and deep learning models to analyze geospatial data and solve practical environmental problems.

Over the past two days, participants have explored the fundamentals of Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Remote Sensing, followed by hands-on sessions using QGIS and ArcGIS. They have also applied their learning to Geo-AI applications in forestry, working in teams on real-world problem statements involving spatial prediction, data modeling, and visualization.
Speaking at the workshop on Friday, Dr. K. Ravi Kumar from the Department of Civil Engineering shared that the initiative aims to help students move beyond textbooks — nurturing analytical thinking and innovation through AI-driven insights. As the workshop enters its final day, students will showcase their projects, demonstrating how Geo-AI can power smarter, data-driven environmental and urban solutions.
By merging education, technology, and purpose, VNR VJIET’s Geo-AI workshop stands as a testament to Hyderabad’s growing role as a hub for next-generation learning — where classrooms evolve into launchpads for innovation.
