In Hyderabad, where long commutes, dense neighbourhoods and extended work hours shape daily life, more residents are beginning to prioritise time at home over stepping out. What was once limited to weekends or downtime is now becoming part of everyday routine, with home turning into a space not just for rest, but for recovery and balance.
This shift is becoming visible in how people are structuring their days, with 9 in 10 respondents, nearly 94%, saying they sleep best in their own bed. At the same time, 86% prefer spending Friday evenings at home instead of going out, suggesting that even free time is now centred around familiar spaces rather than social outings. It also reflects a gradual move towards more self-paced routines at home.
So, what is driving this move inward? The answer appears to lie in changing personal habits.
Around 48% of respondents say quiet time alone in the early morning helps them start the day better, pointing to a growing preference for slower and more controlled routines. It shows how people are carving out personal time at home to manage stress, stay focused and maintain balance through the day.
Surroundings play a critical role in shaping emotional and mental well-being, with thoughtfully designed spaces for reflection, connection and comfort creating a sense of balance and belonging, especially in fast-paced urban environments, said Alisha Lalljee, practicing psychologist, psychotherapist and educator.
These findings are part of the “Moments That Matter” (MTM) study by Interio by Godrej, which surveyed over 2,600 respondents across eight cities including Delhi, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Guwahati, Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
Meanwhile, Dev Narayan Sarkar, Senior Vice President and Head of Consumer Business (B2C), Interio by Godrej, said that the study highlights this shift, showing how design is increasingly shaping how people feel, connect and unwind within their homes.
