While the skies delivered drama, the tarmac told a story of strategy, technology and shifting global alignments. Among the most talked-about zones at Wings India 2026 were the displays by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Airbus and Air India which consistently drew dense crowds, alongside a rare showcase of Russian-origin aircraft that sparked curiosity among visitors and professionals alike.
HAL’s pavilion became a focal point for India’s indigenous aviation push. Visitors gathered around platforms such as the Hindustan 228, Dhruv ALH-NG, LUH Civil Helicopter, and the Hansa-3 (NG), reflecting growing interest in homegrown civil and utility aircraft. The spotlight intensified with HAL’s announcement of a contract with Pawan Hans Limited for 10 Dhruv Next Generation helicopters, strengthening confidence in Indian-built civil aviation platforms and Make in India ambitions.
Meanwhile, Airbus showcased its expanding footprint in India’s commercial aviation sector, featuring the A321neo and A220, and announcing the conversion of 15 A321neo orders into the long-range A321XLR for Air India, highlighting preparations for longer, fuel-efficient international routes. The static display also featured Air India’s first line-fit Boeing 787-9, Air India Express Boeing 737 MAX, and Akasa Air Boeing 737-8 MAX, drawing crowds eager to see India’s flagship and other commercial aircraft up close.
Air India’s first line-fit Boeing 787-9, featuring new cabin interiors and showcased at the static display, will now enter commercial service on the Mumbai–Frankfurt route from 1 February 2026. Operating five weekly flights, the aircraft brings modernised widebody comfort and enhanced passenger experience.
With all Air India flights to Germany now operated by new or upgraded aircraft, travellers can enjoy seamless Lufthansa codeshare connections beyond Frankfurt to 29 destinations across Europe, North America, and South America, as well as convenient one-stop journeys to South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Australia, including cities such as Bangkok, Bali, Colombo, Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Phuket, and Singapore.
Adding a distinctive global dimension was the display of Russian aircraft, including the IL-114-300 and Superjet-100, which stood out amid Western OEM dominance. Their presence not only broadened the technological mix on display but also highlighted India’s diversified aviation partnerships. For many visitors, this rare sighting offered a glimpse into alternative aircraft ecosystems, making the static display area one of the most discussed sections of Wings India 2026.
