In a landmark move toward sustainability, a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aims to power India’s data infrastructure with clean energy. This collaboration, made by CtrlS Datacenters Ltd and NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL)— a subsidiary of NTPC Limited (National Thermal Power Corporation) will drive the creation of grid-connected renewable energy projects of up to 2 GW capacity, delivering green, reliable, and low-carbon power for large-scale data center operations. Together, CtrlS and NGEL are setting a new benchmark in clean technology—supporting India’s journey toward net-zero emissions while fueling the fast-growing digital economy.
The agreement was officially signed between Sridhar Pinnapureddy, Founder & CEO of CtrlS Datacenters, and Sarit Maheshwari, CEO of NTPC Green Energy Limited. Under this MoU, both companies will jointly explore opportunities to develop, acquire, and operate renewable energy assets that supply green power for CtrlS’s captive consumption. The partnership will remain active for two years, with the flexibility to extend further as the projects expand in scope and impact.
Speaking on the collaboration, Sridhar Pinnapureddy said, “This MoU marks a crucial step in our journey toward building a sustainable digital future. Partnering with NGEL enables us to power our datacenters with renewable energy, enhance efficiency, and advance our commitment to net-zero operations. Together, we are proving that innovation and sustainability can —and must go hand in hand.”

Meanwhile, Sarit Maheshwari shared, “NGEL is committed to reducing our carbon footprint and contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable future for India and the world. As datacenters expand rapidly in an AI-driven era, this collaboration is a key step toward building resilient, low-carbon digital infrastructure that supports both economic growth and environmental responsibility.”
Through this strategic alliance, CtrlS Datacenters and NTPC Green Energy are not only promoting renewable innovation but also redefining how technology and sustainability converge to shape the next generation of digital infrastructure.
