Hyderabad is set to become a global manufacturing hotspot as Eli Lilly and Company announced plans to invest over $1 billion in India, with the city hosting a major Manufacturing & Quality hub. The Hyderabad hub will create hundreds of jobs across roles including engineers, chemists, analytical scientists, quality control and assurance professionals, and management positions, boosting local employment and talent development.
The hub will provide advanced technical capabilities and oversight for Lilly’s contract manufacturing network across India. Leveraging Hyderabad’s highly skilled workforce, Lilly aims to expand production of medicines for diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer’s, cancer, autoimmune conditions, and more, strengthening global medicine supply.
Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, said, “Lilly’s continued expansion in Hyderabad highlights the city’s emergence as a powerhouse in global healthcare innovation. From the Innovation & Technology site to a new Manufacturing & Quality hub, Lilly is strengthening its footprint here – boosting Telangana as a top destination for healthcare investments.”
Meanwhile, IT Minister D Sridhar Babu added, “This expansion demonstrates Telangana’s dynamic industrial landscape. The state’s tech-driven infrastructure and ease of doing business continue to attract global leaders, with life sciences in fast-track growth.”
The Executive VP and President, Lilly International, Patrik Jonsson, said, “This investment ensures patients get access to the medicines they need. Partnering with trusted contract manufacturers scales our capabilities while maintaining quality at the core, reaffirming our confidence in India as a key hub in our global network.”
With key hubs in Gurugram, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, Lilly is doubling down on India — boosting local talent, leveling up technical skills, and driving global healthcare innovation.
