Data science is rapidly becoming the backbone of today’s AI-driven world, powering automation, business intelligence, recommendation engines, genomics, fraud detection and more. As companies race to deploy AI at scale, demand for skilled data scientists has surged across sectors, pushing both working professionals and fresh graduates to upskill for roles that did not exist a decade ago. With flexible online learning gaining legitimacy, students are increasingly choosing tech-forward programs that blend solid academic training with industry-ready skills.
As demand grows, the International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT-H) has launched the second edition of its online Master of Science in Data Science (MSc. DS) under its Division of Flexible Learning. The two-year, UGC-approved degree is fully online and designed for working professionals who want to upskill without taking a career break. While structured as a two-year program, enrolled learners are permitted up to four years to complete the degree.
Unlike many traditional programs, the Online MSc in Data Science does not require an entrance examination, opening access to a wider talent pool from diverse academic backgrounds. The curriculum combines foundational theory with applied industry use-cases and real-world problem-solving, preparing learners for high-demand data roles across sectors.

“This program has been launched as a response to the growing demand for accessible, high-quality education in data science,” said Prof. Venkatesh Choppella, Associate Dean of the Division of Flexible Learning at IIIT Hyderabad. “Our goal is to equip learners with the skills to excel in one of the fastest-growing sectors globally, without the barriers of location or rigid scheduling.”
Meanwhile, Prof. Sandeep K. Shukla, Director of IIIT-H, noted, “IIIT Hyderabad’s UGC-approved Master’s degree program in Data Science will enable students from all over India, as well as anywhere in the world, to get skilled in Data Science and be effective in the field, either in research or in their jobs. We invite all potential students to take advantage of it and get higher education from the comfort of their home or work.”
With a flexible structure, no entrance exam and industry-aligned coursework, the online MSc in Data Science is positioning itself as a competitive option for aspiring data professionals looking to transition into automation, analytics or AI-focused roles.
