Updating Yourself Is the Real Glow Up, Actor Vikrant Massey Drops in Hyd

We constantly check for software updates on our phones, refresh apps, clear cache, and upgrade storage, all to ensure our devices do not hang, slow down, or become outdated. But how often do we pause to ask ourselves the same question? When was the last time we updated our thinking, our skills, or our mindset? This thought-provoking question formed the core of actor Vikrant Massey’s message as he addressed an engaged audience during a session on ‘Success Without Shortcuts’ in Hyderabad.

Opening up about his personal and professional journey, Vikrant Massey shared that money was the driving force that pushed him out of his home at the age of 16. His early goals, he said, were simple, to earn enough for education, own a house, and eventually make Rs 1 lakh a month. Buying his house at 24 marked a major step, but over time, his definition of success evolved. “Today, after 21 years in the industry, I am the most content actor,” he said, stressing that success is not instant but the result of repeated failures, discipline, and perseverance.

Emphasising adaptability, Vikrant pointed out that learning, unlearning, and relearning must become a habit. He also highlighted the importance of well-being, noting that good health is a true marker of success, as energy from within matters more than appearances.

The inspiring session was hosted by FLO Hyderabad on Tuesday, featuring Vikrant Massey in conversation with Prathibha Kunda, Chairperson of FLO Hyderabad. More than 250 members of the FICCI Ladies Organisation attended the event.

Meanwhile, Prathibha Kunda said that success without shortcuts is about doing the right things consistently, even when no one is watching, as it builds lasting credibility, character, and achievements.

Speaking further, Vikrant Massey, who began his career on television with Balika Vadhu and successfully transitioned to films and web series, said that success rarely comes easy. “I don’t have an uncle in the industry who can produce a film for me. For every role, I must perform and position myself as a strong contender,” he said, highlighting the importance of merit and preparation.

Addressing the debate around money and happiness, the actor offered a candid perspective. “Money does give happiness. It gives confidence, and confidence leads to happiness,” he said. On social media visibility and networking, he added that he is not a party-goer and does not believe socialising gets one work. “What truly matters is what you do in front of the camera,” he said.

Reflecting on his roots, the 38-year-old actor expressed pride in starting his journey on television, pointing out that several iconic Indian actors, including Shah Rukh Khan and Naseeruddin Shah, also began their careers on the small screen. Sharing personal inspirations, he said his home is sacred to him, his mother remains his greatest inspiration, and though not from the film industry, Rahul Dravid is someone he deeply admires for his values and integrity.

He concluded by sharing his non-negotiables, spending weekends with family and keeping his personal life away from the media spotlight, stressing that true success is as much about balance as it is about achievement.
